Why does the moon shine at night

Why is it so big and white?

We see the moon shine bright,

Because the sun shares its light.

Sometimes I see the moon high in the sky,

Sometimes it’s gone without saying good bye.

The moon goes through phases in a pattern

Each phase of the moon takes a turn.

The moon has phases, why is that so?

So we can get the answer straight.

Let’s look at the moon every night,

That way we can get it right.

We will draw what we see,

And compare each night closely.

Day one

Was not very fun 

We waited for the moon to shine about

But the moon never came out.

A few days passed,

And we saw the moon at last!

There was only a sliver of it, 

You could see only a small bit.

Each night it grew,

Each night it looked new!

Seven days ago the moon was gone,

Now we see half of it shining on.

Looking at my observations,

The moon will grow is my expectation. 

I predict it will grow full and round,

Very high above the ground!

The moon was disappearing but why?
