Who Am I ?

I done kept it real from the jump
Living with my parents, we’d argue every month
Listen, I was just trying to play sports
That didn’t work out because my pride fell short.
So I went and compensated with some books
Graduated from college with a pen and notebook
s
I feel I can change the nation
I went from dealing with monkeys to self-actualization.
Let me tell you about the needs
It starts off simple and then it exceeds
This pyramid will turn you to the man
If you follow it and stick to the plan,
You’ll have a longer lifespan
Become a better person and nothing less than.
Start at the bottom of the pyramid
And then you move up from things inherited.

WHO AM I ?
Said little client, you can’t lie to me
If you wanted to
Client-centered, person to person
I’m the one you run to.

Look, fully-functioning person
I made that too
Fully-functioning person
I made that too
When I see you as your “ideal self”
That means that I worked on you.
I’m the therapist, you’re my client
I just made a better you.

Hi, My name is Abraham Maslow.I was born on April 01st, 1908 in New York. I am the oldest child My childhood was very chaotic, it’s a wonder I’m not psychotic. My father was a drunk and my mother was a creature. I went to Law school about two weeks then dropped out to study positive side of psychology (Humanism) at the university of Wisconsin. Even though my childhood wasn’t the best, I still saw the good in everyone and wanted the world to understand that everyone is born with the same positive qualities. I was then considered the father of Humanistic Psychology.

Hello, My name is Carl Rogers. I was born January 08th, 1902 in Oak Park, Illinois. I am the fourth of six children born to a civil engineer and housewife. My parents were very strict and only believed in the virtue of hard work and moral behavior, they taught this to their children and this forced me to live looking out the eyes of them instead of my own two eyes.
I attended Columbia University for my masters degree and this is where I became interested in Psychology. I believe all people possess an inherent need to grow and achieve their potential, this is known as actualization tendency, the basic human motivation to actualize, maintain, and enhance the self.

What is your theory about ?

Client-centered therapy is when the client finds their own solution with the help of the therapist, this can be done with the development of the self. The development of the self is defined by “I, me and myself”, which is the self or self-concept. The therapist, or in other cases, the mother, would show positive regard, acceptance, love, and approval for others. Then if the mother continue to show their kid affection even after undesired behaviors, this is known as unconditional positive regard, approval granted regardless of a person’s behavior. In client-centered therapy, the therapist must show the client unconditional positive regard because they can’t be judgemental.

In client-centered therapy we must display positive self-regard, which is we grant ourselves acceptance and approval. Positive regard leading to positive self-regard created conditions of worth, which just means we are worthy of approval only when expressing acceptable behaviors and avoiding behaviors that are looked down upon (similar to Freud’s “superego”). This is very similar to conditional positive regard because with this, the child would only receive love and approval if they express desirable behaviors. This is where incongruence comes in, incongruence is when your real self is fighting with your ideal self, what you are vs what you should be.

Many people deny or distort this state, but I believe this is very important in order to become a fully-functioning person. A fully-functioning person is basically just another word for self-actualizing persons. In order to be considered a fully-functioning person, you have to have these characteristics; openness to experience (positive or negative), increasingly existential living “living in the moment”, trust in one’s own behavior, experiential freedom, creativity, and continual need to grow.

What do you bring to the table ?

I'm happy you asked.
I proposed a hierarchy of five innate needs that activates and direct human behavior. The lower the needs are in the hierarchy, the greater their strength and priority is, the higher the need is, the more difficult it becomes to obtain. The lower needs, physiological needs, such as food, water and air and safety needs; security, order, and stability arises in infancy.
