For my Student Teaching class & for my future students who will be UPSTANDERS against bullying.

One day in Miss Drake's 2nd grade classroom, a student wanted to share about what happened at recess the day before.
Kayson raised his hand and told Miss Drake that he saw a boy from another class pushing and saying mean things to a boy who is in 1st grade.
"I saw that too!" Anna cried out.
"I had no idea what to do, but it made me sad," said Kayson.
"Hmmm, let's talk about how we can help people out when they aren't being treated nicely," Miss Drake said.
"First," said Miss Drake, "Can someone tell me what it means when someone is being a bully?"
"We learned that a bully is someone who is being mean to someone for no reason," said Gabby.
"Yeah, and it happens again and again," said Alex.
Eli added, "It is sometimes them hitting or pushing someone, and sometimes it is them saying mean things."

"You guys are right! A bully is someone who is mean to someone else on purpose. The bully is usually bigger, older, or has more power than the person who they are bullying. And what else have we learned about bullying... is it okay?" asked Miss Drake.
"No it is not!" called out the class together.
"Bullying can look a little different each time. Verbal bullying is when someone is saying mean things or using hurtful words. Physical bullying is when they are pushing, hitting or kicking someone," explained Miss Drake.
"There is another kind of bullying that may happen when you guys are at recess, in class, or even at home. It is called Social exclusion and it is when someone is excluded, or left out, from a group."

"But I want to spend today teaching you guys what to do when you SEE someone being bullied! It can be scary to step in, but no one deserves to be bullied," Miss Drake continued.
"I want to introduce you all to my friend, Mr. UPSTANDER," exclaimed Miss Drake as she pulled out a small stuffed boy!

"Mr. Upstander is a superhero. His super power is standing up for people who are being bullied. When Mr. Upstander sees a person being bullied, he does something about it."

"I am going to let you all in on a little secret! I'm going to share with you how Mr. UPSTANDER uses his super powers. Then you too can be superheroes!" shared Miss Drake.
