You may have heard or even seen the Winnie the Pooh cartoons and books. Recently, a movie called "Christopher Robin", centered around the life of the creator of Winnie the Pooh came out to theaters. But did you know that the friendly and colorful characters you were so used to are actually metaphors to mental illness, based of the author's schizophrenic son?
Winnie represents attention deficit disorder.
Attention deficit disorder is when someone has trouble focusing. They can be very inattentive. People also theorize Pooh also has an eating disorder, due to his constant cravings for honey, and unhappiness when he doesn't have it.
Tigger represents ADHD. He is always bouncing, gets overly excited, and cannot pay attention to one thing for too long. But because of this, he winds up doing dangerous and reckless behavior. He interrupts and intrudes and speaks at inappropriate times. He cannot learn from the frightening incidents he gets himself and is always ready to jump into the next adventure.
Depression is a feeling that involves sadness, discouragement, despair, or hopelessness. It lasts for weeks, months, or even longer. Eeyore always has a low mood and feelings of hopelessness. He looks at the negative and expects bad things to happen without having a positive outlook on anything- which leads to him developing low self esteem. He accepts his state, as if it is hopeless to try and get out of it.
Anxiety disorders cause extreme fear and worry, and changes in behavior, sleep, eating, or mood. Piglet is always anxious and worried. He always thinks of negative. He also stutters due to his fear. His fear causes him to overthink a lot. He expects the worst that can happen, even when there is no reason to do.
