What is Light Pollution?

Light Pollution is brightening of the night sky caused by street lights, & other man made sources, which as a disruptive effect on natural cycles & inhibits the observation of stars & planets.

Components of Light Pollution:

Glare- Excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort.

Sky GLow- Brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas.

Light Trespass- Light falling where it is not intended of needed.

Clutter- Bright, confusing & excessive groupings of light sources.

Effects on Humans:

Research says that light pollution can effect humans health, increasing risk in obesity, depression, sleep disorders, breast cancer, etc.

Effects on Humans:

Roadway lighting produces a condition called "disability glare." It is so intense that it causes you to advert your eyes from the light being scattered across your retinas.

Effects on Wildlife:

Light Pollution alters nocturnal animals environment by turning night into day. Artificial lights disrupts nocturnal activity interfering with reproduction & reducing populations.

Baby Seaturtles:

Sea turtles hatch at night on the beach. They find the sea by detecting the horizon over the ocean. Artificial light draws then away from the ocean. In Florida,, millions of baby sea turtles die this way every year.
