Location:  Southern Africa, an island in the Indian Ocean, east of Mozambique.  An Island country in the Indian Ocean, approximately 400 kilometers off the coast of East Africa. The nation comprises the island of Madagascar and numerous small islands.

Madagascar was an unknown island  during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Into the 19th century, Madagascar served as a slave trading center.France conquered Madagascar in 1896 and made it their colony. Only in 1960, they claimed their own independence. First person to named the Island Madagascar, was Marco Polo, a Venetian explorer.
