This book is dedicated to my mom who is a schoolteacher in Huntsville, Arkansas. She is a wonderful woman and I aspire to be as good of a teacher as she is one of these days.

It was a beautiful fall day in the town of Huntsville, Arkansas. School was just beginning and all of the children were excited to enter the classroom and see all of their friends once again.

The children all greeted one another with happy smiles and hugs. They then noticed that there was a kid who they did not know that was in their class this year.

The teacher walked over to the little girl and introduced herself as Mrs. Rose. She asked the little girl her name. "Mary", she whispered. Nice to meet you! We are going out to recess. Come get in line with the class.

When the class was at recess, Mary asked one of the boys named John if she could play ball with him. "No way! We don't like you, you are new," John responded.

This made Mary very sad.

After school that day, Mary's mom asked her how she liked going to a different school. Mary told her mom that she didn't like it because the children were mean to her. This made Mary's mom very sad.

Mary couldn't sleep that night. She was worried that the children could be mean to her again the next day. She didn't want to go back to school again.
The next day, little Mary went to school. She was very scared.

The students were supposed to get into groups to work that day. Mary had nobody to work with. Nobody wanted her to be in their group.

Out at recess, the kids were mean to Mary again. They all stuck together, and made it known that they did not like Mary. This made Mary very sad.

The students entered the classroom after recess. Mary went to sharpen her pencil, and was tripped by another classmate. Mrs. Rose was writing on the board and did not witness this.

"Hey, that's not very nice!" exclaimed Mary. The classroom echoed with the sound of laughter.
