A long time ago in Norway, a boy named Erik Thorvaldsson was born. He lived with his father in a town called Jaeren until he was 10 years old. Erik had a hot temper and red hair. Erik’s father was exiled and had to leave the town so Erik and his Father, Thorvald, moved to Hornstrandir in Iceland. Erik had a hot temper and red hair. Some people called him "Erik The Red".

Erik lived in Hornstrandir for many years until he got married. Erik married Thjodhild, a woman from a wealthy family. He moved down to Haukadale which he called Eriksstead. Erik and his wife had four kids. Leif, Freydis, Thorstein and Thorvald.

One Day, Erik’s neighbour Valthjof, blamed Erik’s servants for triggering a landslide. The landslide had destroyed Valthjof’s house. Valthjof was very mad and to his orders, Valthjofs kinsman killed all of Erik’s thralls. The loss of Erik’s thralls made him furious. Instead of waiting for the community leaders to sort this out, Erik took matters into his own hands and slew both Valthjof's kinsman.

As a result of Erik’s actions, the community leaders of Haukadale banished Erik and his family from the village. Erik and his family moved to the island of Oxney. Little did he know, there would be more problems to come. 

In Oxney, Erik entrusted his new neighbour, Thorgest, with his setstokkr. Erik wanted Thorgest to hold onto the wooden beams until Erik was ready to use them. These beams were very special to Erik as they were mystical and would look very nice in his new house. When Erik was ready, he went to retrieve the beams from Thorgest. 

Erik calmly asked Thorgest to return his setstokkr. Thorgest refused to give it to him no matter how hard Erik tried. Erik warned Thorgest that if he did not hand over the setstokkr over, there would be consequences. Even after being warned, Thorgest still refused to give back the setstokkr. Erik was frustrated and angry. He took the setstokkr from Thorgest with force and stormed out.  

Erik was worried that Thorgest would attack his family after so he devised a plan. The plan was for him and his men to ambush Thorgest. So when night fell Erik and his men attacked Thorgest and his family. The ambush resulted in the death of two of Thorgest’s sons. Erik was put to trial again and this time, he was banished for 3 years.
