Charles Grandison Finney was born on August 29, 1792, in Warren, Connecticut.
As a little boy he moved to New York and lived there for a while. Then he moved to Henderson, near lake Ontario (one of the great lakes).

Charles’s daddy was in the Military. His mommy’s name was Rebecca, she was a housewife who raised nine children. Charles was the youngest of the nine.

Charles went to school in New York and then went to school in Henderson where he finished high school. He was starting to go to college because he wanted to be a lawyer. He dropped out after one semester to be a preacher. He spent the rest of his life preaching.


Charles married Lydia Andrews. He had four children with Lydia. Helen, Charles Jr, Fredrick and Julia.


Charles grandison Finney was part of the abolitionist or the second great awaking reform. A reform is a change. In this reform Charles was successful in believing in what he wanted and made a change. An abolitionish was a person who wanted free slaves, or a person who was against slavery. This reform was to help black people.
Charles did a lot of revivals or assemblies. He would talk and talk explaining the bad in slavery.

Back in the day women churches discourage women to pray aloud. During his revivals he would encourage women to pray aloud with him.

After his reform ended, he continued preaching in public places. He got hired at Oberlin college as a theology professor.
