In Our class we investigated which materials would insulate a cup of hot water the best. We tested two materials against our control: tinfoil and felt. The control was the cup of hot water without any insulator wrapped around it
We kept everything else in the investigation constant e.g the start temperature of the water, the type and size of cup etc. The only variable was the type of material used as an insulator.
We predicted the tinfoil would be the best insulator

We Poured equal amounts of hot water into the cups using a beaker and then recorded the initial temperatures.
We then measured the temperatures at different time intervals using a stopwatch and then recorded our results

We drew up a graph of our results. The tinfoil was the best insulator, the felt was the second best and the control was the worst as it had lost the most heat.
