LIPIDS' FUNCTIONS

First, lets talk about the jobs of lipids! They are very busy, and have six jobs to complete! Lets go take a look!
ENERGY STORAGE FOREST!!

Welcome to the Energy Storage Forest! Their first job is to store energy for a long time!! Next up, the Heat Path! Lets go!

Heat stays here! Protection of heat is the second job for these very important lipids!!! Its called insulation and its like a cushion to keep the heat in!! Next stop, Shock Protection Clearing!!

Heat Loss Protection Path

SHOCK PROTECTION CLEARING
To prevent and stop physical shock from happening, lipids and fats protect your body and organs. Lipids are inside of me and protecting me. This is another one of the jobs of lipids!

Water Loss Protection River Preserve
Here we are, at the Water Loss Protection River Preserve! SO exciting! Lipids protect water loss by repelling or pushing away water! This helps to keep water within our bodies!

Chemical Messengers Greenery
Some lipids send messages to other parts of the body such as cells, organs, and tissues. These lipids are hormones. Its like sending a text from your phone to a friend. Or the mailman bringing your daily mail.
Hey Ava, I got your text about lipids and chemical messengers!

Membrane Flower Patch
Their last job is to help make up a membrane which is a lining or sheet of protection that shields something inside. The lipids' job is to help make up that membrane to protect a cell. Its like wearing a helmet to protect your head! Next up, where to find lipids!

Well, one of the places you can find a lipid is a cell membrane Its a very comfy space that lipids live in and they actually helped to create it. All the padding is meant to protect the cell inside!
It's amazing! Just like the inside of the bike helmet! Where else can we find lipids?
You find lipids in oils as well!
So lipids are found in oils? Interesting!
Where are Lipids Found?

We also find lipids in waxes, like the wax that makes up a candle. The remaining places you can find lipids are in fats, steroid hormones, a type of hormone, and triglycerides which are body fats and vegetable fats! Now you know where to find lipids!!
Thank you so much Lipidia!!
What Makes Up a Lipid?
1 Glycerol molecule
souri:ng of glucose (sugar)
3 fatty Acids:
Building Blocks of Fat

What Foods do you Find Lipids in?
Fries
Cheese
Avocado
Ice Cream
Butter
Olive
Fried Chicken
Milk
Corn

Yum!!!
Next we have Proteins! The next stop on our Macromolecule journey today! Now, all aboard the Protein Plane!!

Storage Island
Transportation River
First, storage. Proteins store important metal ions. These are atoms which have an electric charge, a charge that pulls atoms together or pushes them away. They also store nutrients!
Then their second job comes. They also have to move nutrients and oxygen to certain parts of the body!

Regulatory Path

Movement Valley
Protein hormones regulate or control body organs and tissues. Tissues are a grouping of cells and organs are a grouping of tissues.

Proteins are used to help build muscle in our bodies and allow us to be able to move! Back on the Protein Plane!

Proteins have lots of jobs! This next job they have is keeping the shape of things inside our body! Examples include bones in our body, the cell membrane that surrounds a cell and protects it or helmet as we've been calling it!
We have finally reached the last job of a protein! Most enzymes are protein molecules that carry out specific jobs and complete certain tasks within our body and without proteins, we would not have them.

Where are Proteins Found?
Muscle
Hair
Skin
Bones
What foods are they in?
Eggs
Nuts
Dairy
Meats
Plants

What are Proteins Made Up of?
Proteins are made up of amino acids. Amino acids are like building blocks and once they are all put together they create a protein!

Nucleic Acid Train!

Guess who it is! Its me, Ava! Our next journey is through the town where Nucleic Acids work! All aboard!
Nucleic Acids are made from Nucleotides. Nucleotides are groupings of molecules that are the building blocks for nucleic acids.
