This book is dedicated to all the children in abusive homes and the foster care system.
Hi! I'm Cassie! And today i want to tell you a story. Once upon a time there lived a little boy. His name was Cameron. He was just like you and me. He came to school, and played at recess.
But he was always quiet. And shy. And he didn't have many friends. You see, when Cameron was a baby, his mom and dad wanted him to go live at a new house where he could have a better life.
Cameron had trouble making friends. And he always seemed kind of nervous. Sometimes, when we talked about our families, he would get really nervous.
Uhhhh... I have a dog!
Sometimes, foster kids have trouble connecting with other kids in their class. And they also don't have lots of trust. Me and you make friends really easy because we have trust. These kids have been abandoned or left by their parents. That's what happened to Cameron.
One day, I saw Cameron trying to hide. Turns out he had been crying, but tried to hide his sadness. Later I found out that Cameron was a "Foster Kid". This means he moves to different houses until someone can officially adopt him. Kind of like a realllllllly long sleepover.
When Cameron first came to school, he had lots of bruises all over his arms. I guess he was just really clumsy. He also has some cuts on his face but maybe he just didn't know how to use scissors well.
