For all my bears out there.

A long time ago, long before bears had claws, there was a bear named Oswald who absolutely loved summer. Especially since the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and all the other bears were enjoying their extra favorite treat; blackberries.

The bears had waited all year for these berries, all except for Oswald. Oswald hated blackberries and would often refuse to eat them for dinner. “They’re too bitter!” He would complain to his mother “And they stain my beautiful brown fur too!” All the other bears thought it was strange that Oswald didn’t like the sweet and nutritious berries but they didn’t really bother Oswald on his food choice. Not to mention the blackberry thorns seemed to always poke Oswald’s paws.

One day, while the other bears were enjoying the delicious blackberries, Oswald went for a swim in the river. For the first time ever Oswald wished he had enjoyed berries so he could spend quality time with the other bears. Oswald was a little sad for a moment, staring at his furry self in the running water’s reflection when suddenly he saw something catch his eye.

It was fast and traveling up stream. The way the sunlight reflected off of it only seemed to have drawn Oswald’s curiosity deeper and deeper. “What is this?” he asked himself.

As his eyes followed the swimming object out, of sight he noticed that there were more going in the same direction. Oswald studied these things and followed them to a small waterfall where he noticed these things were swimming up it with great strength. Oswald was finally able to catch a glimpse of what attracted him. He didn’t know it then but they were fish! Salmon to be specific, going up the waterfall. Oswald’s hungry stomach started to rumble. All he knew is that he wanted to catch one of these salmon.

Oswald got an idea. He positioned himself over the waterfall, his big body over the water ready at any point to grab one of these fish so he could taste it for himself. He started to fantasize about how they would taste, he knew one thing for sure: it would not taste like a blackberry!
