There are two parts of the binomial you have to pay attention to, one is the binomial are expanding, and the other is the coefficient.
There are two ways you can find the coefficient.
One way is to use Pascals Triangle, which is on the right.

To use pascal's triangle you put the number that corresponds with the number term you are solving for on the row that equals the power the binomial is being raised to, keeping in mind that the tip of the triangle is = 0.
For example, if you were solving for the 3 term of (4-3y)^5, your coefficient would be 10 as shown on the triangle to the right.

The other way to find your coefficient is by using the combination feature on a scientific calculator.
First you enter the number your binomial is being raised to, Then you enter nCr, and lastly you enter the term for which the coefficient you are solving for.

Once you understand how to solve for the coefficient of the binomial. You can begin expanding the binomial.
Let's use the example of (a+b)^3
The first term would have the coefficient of 1 as we talked about.
