It was a pretty hot type of weather out with a slight breeze every now and then considering it's around 6 am. Kids all around are getting up to get ready for high school. A certain alarm rang throughout the neighborhood in Lompoc, California. The day was May 15, 2017, it was the start of the weekend a Monday to be exact. Everyone dreaded Monday especially a particular curly headed kid. In the city everyone knew who everyone was; like Freddy the classic overachiever, and his power-hungry father who seems to be everyone's lawyer. As the sun was shining throughout Freddy's window he was out of the house. The limo was waiting for him to then take him to his best friend Lucas's house.
Upon arriving, his best friend was out waiting already “Hey Freddy how's it going? Are you here to pick me up for school?” Lucas said while making some weird motions towards the limo and Freddy who is inside. Freddy used to his strange behavior said, “Lucas can you please get into the car we're going to be late for school”. Lucas complied with Freddy and got into the limo and off they went to school. They soon showed up to the school and went in. It was a few minutes before class they were hanging out by the lockers. There was talking throughout the hallways when suddenly Marcel approached them. Marcel was the known drug dealer throughout the school. It came to the surprise that no parents, or teachers ever caught him in action.
“Hey how would you like to skip class!” he asked. Knowing that Freddy was rich he figured he could use him for his money. “I don't think so-” Freddy started saying but was abruptly interrupted by his best friend “Aww come on we always go to class and do all those other goody two shoes things that you constantly have to do.” Freddy didn't bother to listen to Lucas and began walking away from him until Lucas came running up towards him saying “ hey hey hey wait up think about it wouldn't you want to do at least something fun once in your life” Freddy has thought about that a few times during his life. Being the son of the only lawyer in town was hard on him because he couldn't do most things a kid should be able to do. Suddenly those recurring thoughts in his head came to a stop when he spoke out a few words towards Lucas and Marcel who is casually watching the scene unfold with a devilish grin “Fine I'll go skip class with you guys.”
They exited the school doors towards the back of the school where the bleachers are. They then proceed to go behind the bleachers and that's when Marcel set his backpack down and said “alright then now that we're out here you want some of the good stuff.” he opens his bag and takes out a little plastic bag full of what seemed to be a white powdered salt. Freddy knew in that moment he had to leave this situation and somehow get Lucas away from Marcel as well. Freddy turned to look at Lucas and he sees that his eyes are wide with excitement. “ohh cool I didn't know that you had this on you, how did you manage to slip this by security?” “I have my ways” responded Marcel with a bit of a cocky tone. Lucas and Marcel took a whiff and passed it on to Freddy.
Hesitant Freddy stuttered “I-I’m fine guys.” “Come on Freddy try to not be such a stick in the mud!” Lucas teased. Hurt by his words, Freddy was determined to prove him wrong. He took a whiff and everything from there changed. He didn't feel anything at first so he took another whiff after that Lucas stopped him saying “woah there buddy this is your first time so calm it down a bit now will you.” he took the tiny bag away from Freddy and at that moment Freddy felt a sudden flash of euphoric emotions flooding through him and exclaimed very energetically “WOW” and let out a slight chuckle. He had never felt this way before he wondered how something could be so wrong feel yet so right. “It’s great right?” Marcel responded. “Call me anytime I got you, just for a small price!” Marcel continued.
Right after he said that he left to heaven knows where. Freddy and Lucas stayed for a bit longer for the effects to wear off and as soon as that happened the bell rung signaling it's time for the next class. They went to their next class and a teacher stops to question the boys “hey there Freddy I didn't see you in class do you might want to explain to me why that is?” Freddy gave a nervous look towards the teacher. In Freddy’s head he thought the teacher knew about what he did and that he was done for. Lucas responded quickly because he saw how nervous Freddy was and said “Freddy was feeling sick so I decided to take him to the nurse and his father gave us permission to leave as it says on this paper” Lucas proceeded to show the teacher a paper with Freddy's fathers signature.
“Ohh well in that case you both are excused hope you feel better Freddy” the teacher consoled as he walked away. Freddy then punched Lucas in the arm saying, “where did you get my father's signature?” Lucas eyes lit up a bit as he said calmly “I carry this bad boy around me in case of things like this you'd be surprised on how much you can get away with by being the best friend of the son of the only lawyer in town.” Once Freddy heard that he pushed Lucas out of his way, not understanding the humor behind Lucas’s words and said angrily “ Is there ever a time when you are not acting like a complete idiot?” Freddy glowered.
Lucas stood there shocked; as Freddy walked out of school leaving him behind. Freddy didn't bother to call his limo so instead was walking through his neighborhood finally reaching his house and upon entering there is a package at his front door. Freddy looks around and picks it up carefully and takes it inside. He goes to his room and opens the package to see a note saying “since this is your first time I will give you this for free” he looks under the note to see a bag of the same white powdery substance he took when he was with Lucas and Marcel.
Months had passed, Freddy was relaxing in his room preparing to smoke when a loud slam came from the front door of the house. Freddy flinched as he heard his father call out his name. Freddy’s mind was spiraling, he went into a quick panic. His father was back from his court case early. Freddy quickly tried to remove any source of drugs from his proximity. Freddy's father David knocked on the door. Freddy was tense with a shaky voice he responded “H-hey dad w-what are you doing here?”, Freddy’s father answered, “My client never showed up to court, but while we are here why don’t I check those grades of yours.” David made it his main priority to make sure Freddy was an overachiever.
