To check for symptoms of stroke, use the F.A.S.T method.
F—Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
A—Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S—Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?
T—Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away
A stroke is treated by early treatments with medications such as TpA to reduce brain damage.
Some other medications such as Alteplase, Blood thinners, Statin, Antihypertensive drug, and ACE inhibitors are used to prevent additional strokes from happening in the future.
If a stroke is left untreated, there is a higher change of possible brain damage and disability in your future. About 2 million brain cells die without treatment as well.
