Once upon a time a beautiful princess was born, her parents loved her very much and threw a celebration to welcome their daughter.
The King and Queen represent the "parents" of South Vietnam, due to the fact that both countries at one time had control over South Vietnam. The celebration is the Dien Bien Phu battle that caused France to lose control.

All was well until the Evil Mistress, Maleficent, arrived and placed a curse on the Princess! It is said that on her sixteenth birthday the Princess is to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep. The only way to wake the princess is by true loves kiss.
Maleficent plays the role as North Vietnam and the spinning wheel that enacts the curse is communism. The deep sleep Aurora falls into symbolizes the loss of another East Asian country to communist control.
So

To prevent the curse from happening the King and Queen destroyed all of the spinning wheels in the kingdom. They thought that if there were spinning wheels present , that Aurora would be more likely to fall asleep.
The burning of the spinning wheels based on the belief that if there were to any nearby Aurora would be in danger is similar in a way how the U.S. saw of the domino theory.

To take further action in protecting their daughter, the King and Queen have the fairies, disguised as peasant women, to take Aurora away and raise her as their in hopes maleficent won't find her.
The parents requesting that the fairies (earlier represented by the US) help protect her symbolizes US sending troops to help South Vietnam fight communism
