Katie is almost 7 and her birthday is coming up. She is busy planning her birthday party. She is so excited! All of Katie's friends are going to be there!

Katie and her mom go to the store buy a birthday cake and decorations.

Katie sees some toys that she wants for her birthday, but her mom doesn't seem to notice. Katie calls her mom,"Mom, Mom come look at this super fast, shiny scooter"!

Katie's mom tells her,

"Not right now, I'm busy looking over here".

When Katie gets home, she puts the cake in the kitchen. She begins to worry that her mom isn't going to know what she wants for her birthday!

It's the day before Katie's birthday! All day, she was busy blowing up balloons and setting up the decorations for her birthday party. Katie tries to tell her mom about that red scooter that she saw in the store, but her mom is busy talking on the phone.

It's Katie's birthday! She comes running down the stairs to find no presents! Katie doesn't want to be sad on her birthday, but she really wanted that super fast, shiny scooter.

Katie goes into the kitchen and sees her mom making her famous pancakes and bacon. It smells so good! Katie's mom greets her,"Good morning birthday girl!"

Katie thinks to herself,"Maybe it's going to be a good birthday after all."

Katie's friends are starting to arrive and she soon forgets about the red scooter. She is happy that she will get to open some presents.
