A project for Mrs.Roberts

Claude Mckay was a resident and poet in New York during the 1920s. He lived there most of the time, writing books like Banjo and Home To Harlem.
“If a man is not faithful to his own individuality, he cannot be loyal to anything.”

Claude Mckay wrote many famous books in his life, although some of his books were very controversial. One example is, A Long Way From Home. This book was heavily criticized by the populous. Claude also spent some time in other places during the creation of these books.
Admittedly, Claude Mckay didn't spend all of the 1920s in New York, but the renaissance still affected him greatly. His time in other places would come to assist the creation of his most controversial book, A Long Way From Home.

He did spend some of this time in Moscow of the Soviet Union. For a while he followed their beliefs, but with age would come to reject them and the ways of communism, as he grew of age.

Claude Mckay was fascinated by colors because he thought it could be used to show the diversity of New York. He used them in a lot of his books that he made of the years.
During his childhood, his mother and father spoke proudly of their respective Malagasy and Ashanti heritage. McKay blended his African pride with his love of British poetry. He studied poetry and philosophy with Englishman Walter Jekyll, who encouraged the young man to begin producing poetry in his own Jamaican dialect.
