Albany is the Captial of New York State. It is located in Eastern Central New York where it is known as the Captial region.

There are many waterways and reservoirs in New York which need dams to regulate the direction of the water and to stop flooding.

is for Erie Canal

The Erie Canal is an important trade waterway that originally ran across the state from the Hudson River in Albany to Lake Erie in Buffalo. That is from East to West across the state.

is for Forts

New York is home to many military fortresses with a rich history of the politics in New York State.

is for Geology

New York State is home to many fascinating rocks and minerals. The Adirondack and Catskill Mountain ranges hold many different types of rocks and minerals.

is for Hudson river

The Hudson River is an important waterway for New York State. Especially from Albany south. It flows from North to South and helps people who live near it to get their orientation.

is for Islands

New York has many important Islands including the islands of New York City and Ellis Island. New York City is one of the largest cities by population in the United States. Ellis Island is a historical island where many immigrants came to the United States.


is for Jazz

Jazz is a very popular musical genre in New York. Jazz was very popular in New York City where you can still go on Jazz tours and hear live Jazz.

is for Karst

Karst is a type of topography that is common in New York State. One of our most popular sites is Howe Caverns, known for it's unique rock formations.

is for Lakes

New York's most famous lakes are the finger lakes which are among many other lakes that New York has. Additionally, New York State is closely located to some of the great lakes.

is for Mountains

There are two main mountain ranges in New York, the Adirondacks and the Catskills. The Adirondacks are in Northeastern New York and the Catskills are in Southeastern New York.

is for Native Americans

Native American tribes exist across New York State and have heavily influenced the culture and settlements of the state. Native Americans are an important part of New York State.

is for Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean is a border of New York State and it is where most of New York's bodies of water flow to.

is for Ports

New York State has about 20 ports to regulate trade and transportation coming from the many bodies of water in the state.
