Together with partners from partner schools in Portugal, Turkey and Poland we have created a guide to the world of forest and trees. However, it is not obvious. We focused on the non-natural functions of the forest. There are many of them. We chose the ones that interested us most. Thanks to that, we learned about multiculturalism and multiplicity of meanings of trees and forests.
We invite you to discover the secrets of forests through our eyes!

The culturally creative role of forests

The forest is not only mycorrhiza, but also inspiration, beliefs, mythology and history

The forest is the ecosystem that dominated Europe. Depending on the region of Europe, different beliefs appeared and different deities were revered. Slavic mythology is very rich.

The tradition of protecting yew trees in Europe is very long. Parts of this plant were practically used. They were used to make bows and other weapons, as well as poisons.

The lime has many properties

The forest is not only what is above the ground, it is also a lush underground life. Networks of natural dependencies are huge. In the past, it was believed that the blue fires appearing in the wetlands are ghosts. Science has explained this puzzle. It is burning methane.

The forest is also a medicine. Not only produced from plants, but also from fungi.

The motives of forest protection since the dawn of time are, among others, preservation of biodiversity, mystical - religious significance, strategic importance (food, weapons production). An important function was also representative. economic and scientific - research function. For centuries the forest has shaped culture, science and beliefs.
The forest is also an inspiration today - Nobel Prize Winner - W. Szymborska
The poet sometimes places our existence on a par with the existence of other living beings, but this allows her to express more clearly the condition and responsibilities of being a human. One of these is the necessity of possessing a conscience, which is not something that troubles animals. In the poem "Milczenie roślin" (The silence of plants) it turns out that the common earthly journey with plants and our knowledge of them is one-sided. Again there appears the impossibility of dialogue but the poet also expresses feelings usually not expressed by others.

Here's our multi-guide. All the work was done by the pupils in an eTwinning project.
