Have you ever wondered what makes you look like, well YOU?
What makes your hair brown, black, red, or blonde? What makes your hair curly or straight? Or maybe, what make you taller or shorter? What about the shape of your eyes and ears?

Well, the answer to all those questions is your genes, but not the kind you wear! These genes are inside
of your DNA!

Your DNA is stored in the form
of chromosomes, and you get
chromosomes from your parents!
Half of your chromosomes come
from your mom and
half come from
your dad.
You get 23 chromosomes from each of your parents for a total of 46 chromosomes or 23 pairs of chromosomes.

These chromosomes come together to make you, you! Like we said earlier, your DNA makes up chromosomes, and your genes are on your DNA. Your genes contain the information that determines your physical traits!

So for an example, your natural hair color is a physical trait, and the information in your genes determines whether your natural hair color is black, red, blonde, or a mix of those colors!
