B. Colon & K. Ortiz

In the year 1620, a ship named the Mayflower set sail to a new land.
The Mayflower arrived where we now call Plymouth Rock, in Plymouth Massachusetts. Pilgrims needed to build homes and farm the land to survive. Homes were simple and land was largely available to farm animals and crops.

Native Amreican tribes lived in America far before the Pilgrims landed. They were tribes who had established lands and knew these lands well. These tribes were harvesting plentiful crops and knew what, when, and where to plant. Pilgrims had to learn from the Native Americans.

Some of the names of the tribes are Sioux, Cherokee, Iroquois, Shoshone, and Najavo.
Some of these tribes still exist today. We need to be respectful of their lands and their beliefs.
Pilgrims had to plant all crops to survive. All kinds of foods were harvested at different times of the year. Fruits, vegetables, grains, and others were harvested. Animals were another source of food that was a staple of early Americans diet.
