What's the TV talking about?

Well, Chris we just got news that there is a virus spreading around and making people really sick. The news is telling us to practice social distancing which means keeping space between yourself and other people outside of our home.

So, what about my friends?

I can't play with them anymore?

Well Chris, when we practice social distancing it means we have to limit interaction with other people outside of our home. Instead, we can set up a virtual online play date so you can still play with your friends from a safe distance.

Okay dad. I have an idea!

If I cant play with my friends, what if I go visit Grandma instead?

Well Chris, unfortunately because of this virus it isn't safe to see grandma right now. Elderly people are at a higher risk of getting sick. The safest way to take care of grandma is by staying home. Instead, we can send grandma a letter, a text, or a call to make sure she knows we love her from a distance.

Okay dad, I understand. i want grandma to be safe and healthy. I think grandma would want me to enjoy a scoop of ice cream for being such a good boy. Can we go to the ice cream parlor later?

Well Chris, to slow the spread of the virus and properly practice social distancing that means we can only leave the house when it is necessary. Necessary reasons to go out include buying food, getting medical care, or going for a walk or a bike ride with members of our household. Instead, we can make a delicious snack here at home.
