NOTICING WALK
Pupils take a walk around the school where they can silently tap into all of their senses. They observe the environment. They can also collect small items like leaves, pebbles and feathers.
Teachers go at pupils' pace, ask questions and encourage them to notice things. When pupils get back to class, teachers make some time for pupils to reflect on the walk. They could draw pictures, write a story, or make a collage with their leaves.
At the end of the activity, pupils learn to focus their attention and take in the details of things around them.

Our second graders learned mindfulness through walking! During the noticing walk they paid attention to what they saw, heard, thought about and felt. Then they reflected. They draw and wrote about something they noticed on the walk.
