This semester of zoology taught me how similar we are to animals and that we all need each other in order to survive because every species plays an important role on this earth.

RESPIRATION
The respiratory system of a gorilla is the same as humans besides the fact that gorillas have larger piriform sinus, which provides air for their grunts.
Gorillas have a cardiovascular system, meaning the heart pumps blood into veins and arteries throughout the body.
Blood is oxygenated.
They get oxygen by inhaling through the nose and mouth, it goes into the lungs, and then they exhale out carbon dioxide.
CIRCULATION
Gorillas have a closed circulatory system that delivers blood and nutrients to their bodies.
Oxygen rich blood is pumped through the body by the heart.

DIGESTION
Gorillas digestive system is similar to humans, except they have larger colons that produce more acid than humans.
They need more acid produced to digest vegetation.
Male gorillas eat about 40 pounds of vegetation a day.
The majority of a gorillas diet consists of fruit, but they also eat: seeds, leaves, stems, termites, and caterpillars.
Gorillas rarely have to drink water because water makes up over 50% of vegetation.
They use their strength to break apart vegetation.
They are selective foyagers, meaning they only eat certain parts of vegetation and leave the rest to assure it will grow back.
Nutrition & Food Getting
ADAPTATIONS
Gorillas use the fur on the back of their hands to absorb water and then suck it off later if they need it.
They also use their lips as well as their hand dexterity to pick out the portion of the vegetation they want to eat.
SUPPORT ADAPTATIONS
Gorillas have opposable thumbs, as well as opposable toes, allowing them to have full use of their hands like humans.
Gorillas also have strong arm muscles to help them climb and break open vegetation to eat.
PROTECTION
Gorillas beat their chests, scream, and break vegetation to appear tough to an enemy.
Gorillas gather and move in groups to protect themselves.
They charge at an enemy with their teeth bared to scare away something they sense is going to endanger them.
MOVEMENT
Gorillas walk quadrupedally (on all four feet) with limited bipedal (two-footed) movements
They are also known for "knuckle walking," where they use their knuckles to walk.
OSMOTIC REGULATION AND EXCRETION
The excretory system eliminates waste that is produced by homeostasis

Osmoregulation controls solute concentrations and balances water gain and loss
TEMPERATURE REGULATION
Gorillas have thermoregulation, where their hair helps protect the skin from biting insects, as well as keeping it warm.
