
Introduction
Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered with Bhutan, Tibet and India. The people of Sikkim consists of three ethnic groups-Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepali. There its mostly winter.
History
The kingdom of Sikkim was founded by the Namgyal dynasty in the 17th century. It was ruled by Buddhist priest Kings known as the Chogyal . In 1975,after the Indian army took over the city of Gangtok, a referendum was held that led to the deposition of the monarchy and sikkim joining India as its 22nd State.
People
Nepali is the primary language of Sikkim while Sikkimese (Bhutia) is also spoken in some part of this north-east province. English is also spoken by the people of Sikkim. Sikkim food mainly comprises noodles, Gundruk and Siski soups, thukpas etc. Rice is the staple food there. The Kho or Bakhu is a traditional dress worn by Sikkimese people of Sikkim.


Religion
Buddhism is the main religion in Sikkim. Buddhism is widespread in Sikkim and followed mainly by the Tibetans and Bhutia.
Hinduism is the leading religion of Sikkim. With the majority of Nepalis, Hinduism is practiced by maximum number of people in Sikkim. The followers of Hinduism celebrate each festival with all gusto and fervor. Whether it is an event of birth, death or marriage, Nepalis celebrate each and every occasion. In the Nepali society, Brahmins form a special part and these people are liable for performing holy rituals and rites.
