Bill Nye is a man who is best known for being “Bill Nye the science guy”.  He is an American science communicator, television presenter, and mechanical engineer. Teachers all over use his videos on the daily to help kids learn about science concepts, and he makes it easier for children to understand.

One concept that is complementary to his creativity is divergent creativity. He always knows how to connect one concept to many different other things, so students are able to understand and retain the information in a fun way. I will be showing examples of how Mr. Nye has helped students learn about a key concept using many, different, creative ideas. He goes outside the box with some of his experiments because the ideas he has for his experiments are memorable and easy to comprehend.  He also has two documentary on Netflix, one of them explains the critical importance of science in society.

He is the founder of the Planetary society which shows the importance of space exploration and scientific research, which will develop our understanding of space. 

Bill Nye could be considered an associationist because he comes up with new ideas on how to teach science by combining information together and explaining it differently. The concept that describes his shows is functional fixedness. Functional Fixedness is when someone thinks an item has one task and cannot be used to perform different tasks. His shows help children break out of their functional fixedness because he shows you fun and exciting experiments that use objects in a scientific way. it may help children break out of their mental fixedness when thinking about science. He helps children disregard unwanted information and develop new ideas.
