In a small neighborhood called Harmony Ville, there lived two children, Kim and Jay. Kim was six years old and Jay 8 years old. They were neighbors from the opposite sides of the alley. They went to different schools, so the only time they could meet was at home.

Both had puppies as their pets. When Kim and Jay did not go to school, they would take their puppies outside to play. Their puppies played together and chased each other around. But Kim and Jay could not play together.

Kim's parents had instructed her not to play with the neighbors. Jay's parents, too, told him not to play with the neighbors. But the parents never explained why they could not play with their neighbors.

Every time Kim and Jay would take their puppies out to play, they would sit at their doorstep and watch their pets run around. Kim and Jay would stare at each other the entire time with sad faces. 

One day, Kim wrote a note to Jay explaining how she would like to have a playmate at home, but the parents could not allow her. She wanted them to be friends and playmates, just like their puppies.

The following day, she tied the note on her puppy's collar when she stepped out to play with the puppy. The puppy ran to Jay, and Jay took the letter. He read it and smiled.

That night Jay also wrote a note replying to Kim. He also wished he had a playmate. They decided to ask their parents why they could not play with their neighbors.
