The planets that revolve around the sun are known as a solar system. Our solar system has eight planets. The planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Mercury is the first planet in our solar system, meaning that it is the closest planet to the sun. Since it is so close to the sun, it is the second hottest planet. Being only slightly larger than Earth's moon, Mercury is also the smallest planet in our solar system.

Venus is earth's sister planet. They are almost the same size and made up of similar things. But unlike Earth, Venus's atmosphere is thick and made up of toxic greenhouse gasses which trap heat and make it the hottest planet in our solar system.

Earth is our home planet! It is the only planet in our solar system that has life. It is also the only planet that has water on its surface. 71% of Earth's surface is covered in water!

Mars is known as "The Red Planet" because, well, it's red! It is the only planet that humans have sent land rovers to. It is now a cold desert but scientist have found ice on mars and think that it used to have water on its surface. Some scientists think that one day humans could live on Mars!
