    Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born in California in 1972. Between his father and mother's heritage, Dwayne is of Black Nova Scotian and Samoan origin.

He was surrounded by many wrestlers, as his father and grandfather were wrestlers. In the future, Johnson would continue this tradition. 

        Overcoming Obstacles

Dwayne Johnson moved around a lot and had no friends as a child. Along with these struggles, his parents were in financial trouble.

"We were evicted from our home when I was only 14, a development which hurt m[e] birtterly. I remember thinking , this can never happen again. The men I idolized... built their bodies and became successful in appearance and wealthy. That can be me I thought and started working out... I was having a defining moment." -Dwayne Johnson 

A Coach Who Had Hope

Even though Dwayne Johnson's relationship with Jody Cwik started out rough, this coach chose to get him started in football which led Johnson to a spot on a college team.  

        Overcoming Obstacles

Dwayne Johnson almost played football in college but could not follow through due to an injury. Despite this setback, he still got a degree in criminology and phsyiology.

Johnson entered the world of wrestling and made a name for himself in the professional World Wrestling Entertainment industry. He went from being called Rocky Maivia to "The Rock" which has been his title ever since.

Throughout his wrestling career, "The Rock" won many titles such as the Intercontinental Championship, WWF Championship, and the WWF Tag Team Championship.

"The Rock" had several feuds within the wrestling world and often did not get along with people, yet he did form many iconic teams as well. He teamed up with fellow wrestlers, "Mankind" and "The Undertaker".

"The Rock" proved himself to be a man of many talents as his next adventure was in acting. He has been in many popular movies such as Jumanji and Moana. 

            Samoan Culture

As a star in the film Hobbs and Shaw, Johnson had the opportunity to take part in displaying his Samoan culture onscreen.

Johnson was able to show his culture through a Samoan war dance scene that made his mom cry. Johnson expresses his pride in his culture through moments like this.

Not only can he wrestle, act, and dance, but he can also sing. "The Rock" sings in his Disney movie, "Moana" most notably.

Charity

"The Rock" has his own charity foundation that helps hospitalized children. His foundation aids these kids in their physical fitness journeys.
