There was once a prince, and he wanted a princess, but then she must be a real Princess. He traveled right around the world to find one, but there was always something wrong.

从前有一个王子，他想找一位公主结婚，但她必须是一位真正的公主。他环游世界，可是找到的，但总理想。

 There were plenty of princesses, but whether they were real princesses he had great difficulty in discovering; there was always something which was not quite right about them. So at last he had come home again, and he was very sad because he wanted a real princess so badly.

虽然有很多公主，但她不知道誰是真的公主。总是有些不对劲。所以最后他又回到了家，他很伤心，因为他非常想要一个真正的公主

One evening there was a terrible storm; it thundered and lightninged and the rain poured down in torrents; indeed it was a fearful night. In the middle of the storm somebody knocked at the town gate, and the old King himself sent to open it.

有一天晚上，一场可怕的风暴。雷声闪电，雨水倾泻而下。这真是一个可怕的夜晚。在暴风雨中，有人敲了城门，而老国王亲自派人将门打开。

It was a princess who stood outside, but she was in a terrible state from the rain and the storm. The water streamed out of her hair and her clothes; it ran in at the top of her shoes and out at the heel, but she said that she was a real princess.

在外面是一位公主站在暴雨和暴风雨中。水从她的头发和衣服中流出。它穿在鞋子的顶部，脚跟穿出，但是她说她是一个真正的公主。

‘Well we shall soon see if that is true,’ said the old King. He went into the bedroom, took all the bedclothes off and laid a pea on the bedstead: then he took twenty mattresses and piled them on top of the pea, and then twenty feather beds on top of the mattresses on the princess's bed. The next morning he asked how she slept.

老国王说：“好吧，我们很快就会知道是真的还是假的”  他走进卧室，拿掉所有的床上用品，在床架上放了一个豌豆：然后他拿了二十个床垫，将它们堆在豌豆上，然后在公主床上的床垫上，放了二十张羽毛棉被。在第二天国王问她睡得好不好·

‘Oh terribly bad!’ said the princess. ‘I have hardly closed my eyes the whole night! Heaven knows what was in the bed. I seemed to be lying upon some hard thing, and my whole body is black and blue this morning. It is terrible!’

“哦，太糟了！”公主说。 ‘我整个晚上几乎都没有阖上眼睛！我似乎躺在一些硬的东西上，今天早上我的整个身体都。这很恐怖！

They saw at once that she must be a real princess when she had felt the pea through twenty mattresses and twenty feather beds. Nobody but a real princess could have such a delicate skin.

他们立刻看到，当她通过二十张床垫和二十张羽毛床感觉到豌豆时，她一定是一位真正的公主。除了真正的公主外，没有人会拥有如此娇嫩的皮肤

So the prince took her to be his wife, for now he was sure that he had found a real princess, and the pea was put into the Museum, where it may still be seen.

因此，王子娶她当妻子，因为现在他确信自己已经找到了一位真正的公主，而且把豌豆放进博物馆，在那里所有人都可以看到。
