This story is to help students adjust to changes in school because of COVID-19. 

Hi, my name is Lily! I have been staying home most of the time because of the virus called COVID-19, but now it is time to go to school!

COVID-19, or Coronavirus, is a kind of germ that makes some people very sick. We have to be careful, because you could have and spread this germ without even knowing it!

This summer was different for me. I did not go on vacation or see many friends. I even had to talk to my grandpa on the computer because we couldn't visit him!

Now it is my first day of Kindergarten. I feel excited, but I'm also worried about the virus. How will I know I am safe and healthy?

Before school, Mommy gives me a face mask. She says it will keep my friends and me safe. She shows me how to loop it around my ears.

I do not know if I like my mask. It feels different. It will be hard to wear all day, but I know it will keep me safe. It's even my favorite color!

On the school bus I sit in a seat by myself. Mommy told me the big kids go to school at a different time of day so the bus does not get too crowded. Germs spread in crowded places.

When I get to school, my teacher, Ms. Miller, greets me with a wave. She says we cannot high five because that could spread germs. Even though she is wearing a mask, I know she is smiling at me.

Ms. Miller says it makes her happy to see our whole class wearing their masks because this will keep us healthy. She also tells us we can stay healthy by washing our hands!

We practice washing our hands as a class. Ms. Miller says we should sing the ABCs two times before we finish. We need to scrub the tops and bottoms of our hands, and even in between our fingers!
