In 1493 The Ottomans captured the strategic city of Constantinople. This made trading throughout the city of Constantinople very difficult for The Europeans.

1. What did the Ottomans do that affected the trade routes to Asia?

Since Europe could not efficiently trade through  constantinople They needed to find a new faster and safer way to get to Asia and trade for the spices and silk goods in Asia. 

The tools needed to explore were already created. The explorers had the magnetic compass, the astrolabe, and the sextant.
