Once there was a little pumpkin. She grew on a vine all summer, enjoying the sunshine. 

The little pumpkin grew because of the sunshine, healthy soil, and occasional rain. But the other pumpkins got big much faster. 

"Maybe you'll be big in time for Halloween!" Her friend the spider said. 

"I hope so," the little pumpkin said. "But how can I get bigger?"

The spider thought for a moment. The little pumpkin was getting sunshine, water, and plenty of clean air. What else could help her grow?

"I know!" The spider exclaimed, and ran away toward the farm house.

"I brought you some plant food!" The spider said the next day. "This will help you grow much bigger."

"Wow, thank you!"

Spider sprinkled the plant food in the dirt around the little pumpkin.

The next couple of months went by, and the spider would bring more plant food for the little pumpkin. She began to get bigger and bigger.

Before long, it was October. The farmer came to the pumpkin patch with his daughter to look for a pumpkin to carve for Halloween. 

"That's the biggest pumpkin I've ever seen!" The farmer said. 

"This pumpkin will be perfect for Halloween!" said his daughter. 

The little - now big - pumpkin smiled to herself while the farmer rolled her to the farm house.

On Halloween, the pumpkin was the biggest, best carved in the whole town. 

She had a very fun, spooky night!
