It was eleven o’clock at night when my phone rang. At the moment I was reading an interesting book. It was one of my well-known friends. As soon as I heard him, I knew something was wrong. His voice was low and kind of scared. He told me that he needed my help.

Ten minutes later, I got into my car and drove as fast as I could providing that I am not breaking the law, of course. In thirty or so minutes, I arrived at the place. What I saw freaked me completely out. His vehicle had hit into a tree and there was nothing left out of his old car, just a bunch of metal. 

Fortunately, James was all right and he seemed to be wholesome as always. Anyway, we called the ambulance and the police. In an hour more-or-less, the ambulance checked whether James was hurt. When they got sure that he is OK, the police had filled out the report and told my friend to come to the police station later.

My friend told me that he has lost the control because the brake had not worked, so he had to jump out of the car when the speed was not so dangerous, but he couldn’t stop the car and the car hit the tree. He was going on a vacation and he was far away from home. I decided to offer him a place in my guestroom till tomorrow, which he happily accepted.

It was a miracle that James did not get hurt, but since then he decided that he would not drive anymore unless the car was working perfectly.
