The sun jumped off the bright white snow and illuminated the whole bedroom
as John Lennon woke up to the sound of the doorbell ringing. Annoyed, he
shuffled out of bed and opened to the door to see his band mates Paul
McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr cheerily standing on the porch.
Paul happily said good morning, stepped inside the house with the others and
then told John, “George called; he wants us in the studio by 10 to record the
remaining songs for the album. “

John grumbled something incomprehensible and went upstairs to get ready
while Paul, George, and Ringo started joking around and went to the kitchen to
get some tea. 30 minutes later they arrived at Abbey Road Studios where
George Martin, their manager, was impatiently waiting for them in the heavy
snowfall. He rushed them inside the cramped recording studio and told them
to start practicing. John, Paul, and George slowly walked over to their guitars
while Ringo went and sat down at his drums which had the infamous logo “THE
BEATLES” displayed on the bass drum. Everybody played a few notes and
then started practicing a new song Paul had written for the album.

After going through a few run-throughs, Ringo signaled to the recording
engineers upstairs that they were ready to start. When the recording
engineers signaled back, they started playing their first song: There’s A Place.
Ten takes later, John said, “We've done a 100 takes of this song already, I’m
not doing any more takes so we can use what we have or use nothing.” Paul,
John, and George looked around, decided not to argue with him and got
prepared for their next song: I Saw Her Standing There. When they were
ready, Paul screamed “one, two, three, four”and the band energetically
launched into the song.

By the time the band had finished the two songs it was 1 pm and the
recording engineers decided to go out to lunch. Out of their microphone
they told the band “were going to take a break for lunch, you guys can
leave also.” The Beatles nodded at the engineers but chose to stay and
practice through the lunch break. Paul went to help out George with a
section of their next song while John absentmindedly strummed his
Gibson guitar and Ringo played a random beat on his drums. As the
break went on everyone became more and more tired but they kept on
practicing until lunch was over.

When the engineers came back they were astonished that The Beatles had
decided to stay and practice through the break since they were the first
band they had ever seen do so. One of the engineers asked, "why didn't you
take a break?" George looked at him and snidely replied, "because we didn't
want to." The engineer turned around without saying anything went back
upstairs and for the next three and half hours the band recorded three
songs: A Taste Of Honey, Do You Want To Know A Secret, and Misery.

When they were done, George Martin’s voice came through the microphone
as loud as a clap of thunder, “we’re taking a small break now, but we still have
a few songs to record so try not to strain your voice that much.” Then the
recording studio fell into silence and John, Paul, George, and Ringo stepped
outside of the room to relax and have a snack before they went back in and
finished recording the rest of the songs. They got some tea and crumpets
from the cabinets in the break room and started joking around.

The next session started an hour and a half later at 7:30 p.m. and it began
with the band recording a new song of theirs: Hold Me Tight. After 13
takes, John once again decided that it was good enough and when nobody
challenged him the band moved on and played three more songs: Anna (Go To
Him), Boys, and Chains. By the time they had finished all of the songs it was
10:00 pm and everybody was tired and wanted to go home. However, George
Martin stopped the band and engineers from packing up and said he had an
announcement to make.

George Martin wanted one last song to be recorded for the album,
everybody was disappointed that they had to stay longer but soon the whole
studio was offering suggestions for the new song. One of the recording
engineers suggested that the band cover a song called Twist and Shout by
The Isley Brothers and that John sing the lead vocal. Paul, George, and
Ringo all liked the idea but John was against it since his voice almost gone.
“Come on John, its one song and then we’re done with our first album,” Paul
said, trying to convince his friend to sing.
