Definition:
Photosynthesis, the cycle by which light energy is transformed into chemical energy by green plants and some other organisms. Light energy is absorbed and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds during photosynthesis in green plants.
Simplification:
Photosynthesis is the process in which green plants use sunlight to make their own food. Green plants use this light energy to change water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and nutrients called sugars.

Main Vocabulary:
Carbon Dioxide - this is a chemical compound that is made up by a carbon atom and two oxygen atoms as well. It's also colorless, and odorless.
Oxygen - this is a gas that is necessary for respiration which is also odorless, or colorless
Energy - it's something that organisms use to survive and grow, and for every type of biological process.
Glucose - this is the main type of sugar that has several forms used in photosynthesis.

The Process ( pt. 1) :
Photosynthesis is a cycle, for example another form of cycle is when a cocoon forms into a butterfly. However this type of cycle includes many forms of living organisms, (living things). Let's say we are making a seed grow into a sunflower, first we need to plant the seed in a place where it gets lots of sunlight to make energy.

The Process ( Pt. 2) :
In addition, we also need the flower to make carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a form of gas that is made from one atom of carbon and 2 atoms of oxygen ( oxygen=what we breathe in). Finally, we then water the seed so the roots grow and stay hydrated. That is called photosynthesis, and when the sunflower blooms it produces sugars along the way. This happens to all green plants.

Step By Step:
1. absorption of light
2. Production of glucose from carbon dioxide
3. Storing Radiant Energy
4. Conversion of CO into carbohydrates

Chemical equation:
- Carbon dioxide + Water + solar energy → Glucose + Oxygen.
- Carbon dioxide (6C02)+ Water(12H2O)+ solar energy → Glucose (C6H12O6) + Oxygen(6O2) + Water. (6H2O)

How is this Useful To Us humans?
Photosynthesis converts sunlight into energy in the form of sugar (glucose). That sugar is then broken down through cellular respiration to fuel life at the cellular level.
Photosynthesis is therefore the ultimate source of the food we eat and the air we breathe.

Extra vocab:
Organelle - A sub cellular structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell, much like an organ does in the body.
Chloroplast - The organelle in which photosynthesis happens
ATP - its the main molecule that stores energy, as well as transferring energy into the cells.
Mitochondria - Organelle where cellular respiration occurs.
Cellular respiration - The process where plants and animals convert the energy to sugar to ATP energy
Fermentation -Process used to release energy when there isn’t any oxygen.
