Once upon a time not long ago there was a big lion named Joe. He was feared by all the animals that occupied the savannah. Everywhere Joe would go people would run away and tell stories about him.

     Joe would wake up right at the beginning of dawn to do his morning walk and go to the drinking hole. So when Joe gazed over the savannah from waking up from his slumber, he saw all the other creatures scattered throughout the savannah while he stood high on his giant rock.

    As Joe started walking to the drinking whole he could hear the other animals talking.

    “Look it’s Joe the meanest lion around,” whispered one of the elephants.

    Joe just kept walking by but everytime Joe hears something like that it makes him sad that the other animals feel that way. It makes him feel even more lonely then what he is.    

    When Joe finally got to the drinking hole after walking for a while all the animals moved away. Joe then over heard one of the gazelles talking to one of her babies.

    “Move away or the mean lion will get you,” threatened the gazelle to her baby.

    As Joe was getting a drink and the gazelle and her baby left he heard a noise in the distance. He listened closer and it sounded like it was hyenas. Joe could hear them being really noisy in the distance.

Then he heard someone yell for help and Joe has never really favored the hyenas in the savannah because they were always being bullies. Joe then started to run towards the noises and he could see the gazelle and her baby were stuck on the edge of a cliff with the hyenas closing in on them off the edge.

“Stop!” Joe yelled, “You have to get through me if you want them!”

    “What are you going to do, there is four of us and one of you,” chuckled one of the hyenas.

    “Come a little closer and find out!” Joe said.

    The first hyena jumped towards Joe while he was trying to protect the gazelle and her baby. He tossed the hyena towards the cliff almost falling. 

        Then the other three jump on him hoping to bring him down. The hyenas then get him to the ground and Joe jumps throwing them all off him.
