One time there
was a little girl
named Mary. She
loved baking,
especially making
cake.

One time Mary and her friends were cooking at
her farmhouse. Then the mean girls came and
challenged Mary and her friends to a bake-off.
Mary wanted to show the mean girls that they
were not the best at everything, and that Mary
and her friends could beat them.

These were the rules: one person from each team would
go out and get the ingredients and come back and the
whole team would bake. Who ever finished first would
win. Mary’s friends chose her to get the ingredients, and
the mean girls chose a girl named Hailey.

Both girls lined up at the starting line, and when they
said, “go” they took off for the first ingredients.

Mary decided to get the eggs first. She saw Hailey
going to the cows first to get milk. Mary sprinted to
the chicken coup. She went inside and got four eggs
from one of the nests and put them into a basket.

By the time Mary got outside, Hailey had already
gotten the milk and was running towards the
strawberry plants. Mary decided to go there next,
too. She knew Hailey might try to take all of the
strawberries so Mary would not get any. When she
got there, Hailey pushed her to the ground and ran
off to the chicken coup with the strawberries.

Mary got up, and went to check her eggs. Luckily
only one of the eggs had broken from the fall. It
didn’t matter because she only needed three, but
she knew Hailey would try to mess her up by
damaging her ingredients. That’s why she had an
extra. Mary got back up, collected the strawberries,
and hurried off get the milk and the other final
supplies.

On her way back, thunder started to roar. Mary
stopped in her tracks. She is devastated by the
thunder.

She thought about running back to the chicken
coup to take shelter, but then she remembered
how she could not let her friends down. Mary kept
moving forward, and made her way back to the
house.
