Children are learning social skills needed to play and work with children.
By age five most children are ready to
start learning in a school environment.
A six year old should be able to focus on a task for at least 15 minutes.

Draws shapes/ makes person
Can print some letters/numbers
Use children safety scissors
Throw and catch a ball
Hops on one foot
Jumping, running, throwing
Ride a tricycle/ bike with training wheels



6 to 8 years Cognitive Development Milestones
Physical Development
Usually have strong gross motors skills
Swings/climbs
Eye hand coordination
Riding and steering a bike with no training wheels
Write neatly
Does chores
Make bed
Do dishes







4 Year Old's Language Development
Can say first and last name
Sing songs like the alphabet
Basic grammar "he" and "she"
Tells stories.




5 Year Old's Language Development
Speak clearly
Says name and address
Tells a story using full sentences
Grammar future tense - example "Grandma is here."


6 Year Old's Language Development
Normally can follow three commands in a row.
Early understanding of time concept.
Understand size relationships.
Counting numbers.
Knows telephone number



7 years - 8 years old's Language Development
Early school age children should be able to use simple sentences that contain an average 5 to 7 words.
Children use more complex sentences as they grow
As children go through elementary school years grammar, pronunciation become more normal.
