Hi my name is Andie Orange, I like to bake. My big sister Mea Orange told me I was finally old enough to be in the bake off. I am so excited to see if I made it to the bake off. In the meantime, as I eagerly wait, I think of the judges yelling Andie you win! Ahhhhh what a thought. Finally it was time for bed. The day had felt like a whole entire year. That night I had trouble sleeping. There was a lot of tossing and turning, all because I was too excited for the bake off! The next day I went to check the mail. I tore the envelope that had my name on it. I closed my eyes, then I opened them. Eeeey I screamed, I made it to the bake off as I ran inside. I jumped up in the air happily!
Then I remembered that the bake off is Thursday. Today is Tuesday. That means that I only have two days until the bake off. I still have to make a recipe for the contest! It is very important to me and my family for two reasons. The prize is $2000. I love baking and the money will help my family's bakery, called Sara's family bakery, stay open. Sara is my mom. I need a plan, a good plan. I will ask my friends at school tomorrow to help me save my family's bakery! I start frowning. I need to cheer up. I know looking at family recipes makes me cheer up. Look at this one for oatmeal cookies. I love oatmeal cookies. I hear my mom calling Andie, it’s dinner! Coming mom, I yelled back at her as loud as I could!
Dinner was carrots. I hate carrots. Mom says they’ll help me see better. When I was little I wanted to be a ninja, so I liked them. I thought I’d shoot lasers out of my eyes, but I didn’t! I ate my carrots anyway. Mea says that she only likes her carrots in ranch. I hate ranch! But what we were both really waiting for was dessert. Mom always makes the best dessert! Dessert was old fashioned apple crisp, a family recipe. After dessert I went to see dad. He was out trying to mow the yard. I asked if I could help and he said no! I asked him if we could have a chat? He said after he’s done mowing the lawn he’d come inside and we'd have a little chat! I felt a little better. So when dad finally got done mowing the lawn, he did as he said he would, just as he always does. I know he would keep his word with me!
I told him about the bake off, how it was in two days and how I wanted to save the family bakery with the prize money! Dad suggested we sleep on it and deal with it in the morning. I said ok sadly as I headed up to brush my teeth for bed! Note to self: I couldn't get much sleep, not because I was excited, just because I was sad and I couldn't help my family bakery.The next day I made my breakfast and ate as fast as I possibly could. Then I got on my uniform for school as quickly as possible. Then I walked to school as quick as my legs would take me! I saw my friends in the field and I ran to catch up with them. Oh hi Andie, they said. Why are you in such a rush asked Britney? I need help! You do, huh? So you know how I told you about the bake off? I got in!
Congratulations, Britney interrupted! Well I haven't got a recipe yet! Why don’t you use your mom's apple crisp, said Witney interrupting!
Good idea, I said. Also my family's bakery is shutting down if more people stop coming in. We already lost a lot of customers. There's prize money for the winner of the bake off and I want to use it help save my family’s
bakery! You could make posters, said Witney and hang them around town, added Britney. Bong Bong! That's the bell for school, lets go inside. When we got in class, I told the teacher about the posters. She said we could work on them at recess. I thanked her! Britney and Whitney decided to help me make the posters! I thanked them. The posters said, Want a delicious treat? All money goes to help us stay open. Save the Oranges family bakery.
Thank you all!!! I made a heart on it, I said. Britney and Whitney drew smiley faces on it. After school we went to hang them
around town. We really think it will work, so we high fived! Some people came, not enough to save the bakery though. Then I asked my mom what to do? She said, why don’t you go play outside? I mean about the bakery mom! Oh that. Why don’t you have a fundraiser? You could sell some baked goods down the street and raise money for the bakery.
Ok, so mom taught me how to make birthday cookies.
*sprinkle cake mix
*butter
*milk
*egg
*creamy vanilla frosting
* sprinkles
Thanks mom, I said!
So I went to get Whitney and Britney! On my way I saw that more people were looking at the signs! People kept on giving me money. I thanked all of them. I felt good. Why was I so worried in the first place, I asked myself. When I got to Whitneys and Britneys
they said they’d help.
