As a small boy, Johnny enjoyed a close
relationship with his mother; he loved her very
much. But one day, Johnny’s mom and dad
had a big fight and his mom decided to leave.
She let Johnny stay with his his father.

Ever since Johnny’s mom has left, Johnny’s
dad Randy has become increasingly angry.
Randy spends much of his time alone, except
for when he goes to his friends house.

One day, Randy looks for Johnny. He finds
Johnny playing video games. Randy asks
Johnny, "do you want to go to my friend’s
house with me?" Johnny replied by quickly
putting on his shoes and coat.

Johnny was so excited to be going on a ride
with his father. Johnny has never been with
Randy to his friend’s house before. The whole
way there Johnny was bouncing in his seat as
he wondered what they were going to do when
they got there.

They finally arrived at the house. The house
seemed creepy to Johnny because it was old
and big. After walking through the huge
squeaky door, they were greeted by Randy’s
friend named Burt. Burt said to Randy, “glad
you can make it, I’m very excited to be able to
show your son our way of thinking.”

They walk through the house and all over the
walls are ant-government flags. Johnny sees
several men and women sitting in chairs in
front of a podium. Randy tells Johnny to “have
a seat.” As Johnny sits, he watches his father
greet everyone, including the flags. This is
unfamiliar to Johnny.

Burt calls for a meeting and he begins to
speak. He starts by saying “we cannot let the
government rule us. We have to do something
bad to get attention. We must show the
government that we don’t believe in their
rules.” Johnny noticed his father cheering
when Burt spoke.

Johnny overheard Burt talking about scary
things, things like guns and bombs. Johnny
was used to these things in his video game,
but he soon found out this wasn’t a game.
Johnny thought about everything that Burt was
saying about the government. Johnny was
starting to get scared.

Johnny was also confused. He loved his dad
and wanted to be just like him. All he had ever
learned in school about the government is
good. Saying the pledge was even fun to him.
Johnny knew he had to talk to somebody
about it, before something bad happens. But
he couldn’t talk to his dad or his mom. Only
person he could think of was his friend at
school.

The next day at school Johnny runs over to
Cameron during recess. Johnny says
“Cameron! I have to talk to you! My dad took
me to this weird meeting yesterday and now
I’m supposed to have guns and hate the
government.” Cameron, in disbelief, asks
Johnny to repeat what he just told him.
Cameron heard right the first time.
