Gösterişe düşkün, kıyafetlerine kese kese altın saçan bir kral varmış.O kadar kendini beğenirmiş ki, aynalardan ayrılıp ülke işleri ile bir türlü ilgilenecek vakit bulamazmış. Kralın yardımcıları "Ahh kralım bu kıyafetler size çok yakışmış. Ne kadar zevklisiniz." dedikçe, kral mest olurmuş.Kral yüzlerce kıyafetin içinden bir giysi seçebilmek için saatlerini harcarmış, kıyafetine uygun saç modeline karar vermek ise yarım günü bulurmuş.
There was a king who was fond of showing off, who poured bags of gold into his clothes. Kralın giyimine olan düşkünlüğünü öğrenen iki dolandırıcı tutmuş sarayın yolunu. Yardımcılardan biri ile görüşmeyi başaran dolandırıcılar "Biz öyle bir giysi dikeriz ki, sadece güzelliği ile değil aynı zamanda sadece en zekilerin görmwsi mümkün olan özelliği ile de büyüleyicidir."demiş.
One day the king ordered the most beautiful clothes to be sewn. Tailors from all over the country sewed their most beautiful clothes for the king. After looking at all the clothes, the king said, "Ehh not bad, but not enough".
Two swindlers, who learnt the king's fondness for his clothes, went to the palace. They managed to get in touch with one of the assistants and said, "We can sew such a garment that is not only beautiful, but also fascinating with a feature that only the most intelligent can see."

Kral onların getirdiği elbise yerine başka bir elbiseyi giyip bahar şenliklerine katılmış, dolandırıcıları da hapishaneye göndermiş ve 10 yıl orada kalacaklarını söylemiş.
Dolandırıcılar yaptıklarından pişman olmuşlar.
