Here we are in London and this is cousin, Ben. He celebrates
Easter. He says Easter's between March 22nd and April 25th each
year which celebrates Jesus Christ being risen from the dead. This
is after he died on the cross which happened on what we now call
Good Friday. Easter is usually known for Easter eggs as eggs used
to be given as a gift during Easter.

friend Alice is about to celebrate Christmas
over here and she has invited us to
join her.

4

My friend Alice celebrates Christmas every year on the 25th of
December. She celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ with our family,
relatives and close friends as well as opening presents given to
everyone.

meet my friend Isha, we are going to help her light her
candles for Hanukkah.

6

My Jewish friend Isha, celebrates Hanukkah which she calls the
Feast of Dedication. It lasts for 8 days from the 16th to the
24th of December. She says a candle is lit every night for 8
nights to celebrate the miracle of the candle oil.

of the Chinese New Year. Are you excited to
see the colorful lanterns and parades,
because I am!

My teacher Ms. Chen tells us that Chinese New Year is the time
in which the Lunar Calender (Cycle of the Moon) begins.
Chinese people light lanterns and parade on streets on this
day. This year, it was celebrated on February 19th, the Year of
the Horse.

Sydney now. But don't worry there are still more
celebrations and festivals to go. And
they are just as fun! Let's go
...WHISHHHH!

10

My next door neighbour, Mr. Patel, has invited us over to celebrate
Deepavali. He also calls it the 'Festival of Lights'. The main festival
night is on October 23, 2014 but the celebration lasts for five days
where Hindus light candles to celebrate good over evil or light over
darkness.

the munching of food? Oh and the smell
of sweets? Mm....yummy. I wonder what
that would be...
Why, it's my friend Amarah and her family.
12

My best friend Amarah has just finished the Islamic holy month
of fasting which is known as Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr is an important
religious celebration that comes after Ramadan and is known to
Muslims as the Feast of Breaking the Fast.

13

My dad gave my mum a gift and
flowers for Valentines Day. Valentines
Day happens every year on the 14th
of February. Many people give
cards, flowers and chocolates to
the people they love to show appreciation
and to share happiness.

14

Every year on the 26th of January my family and I celebrate
Australia Day. The day on which the First Fleet came to Australia
from Britain. It is a public holiday all over Australia where
everyone comes together to celebrate the birth of our nation.
