Glossary

Chrysalis- (noun) pupa of a moth or butterfly 

enclosed in a cocoon

Critter- (noun) a regional term for creature

Emerge- (verb) to come out of something or 

somewhere

Hatch- (verb) emerge from the eggs

Procreate- (verb) to have offspring or young 

(children)

Butterfly Fun Facts:

1. Butterflies need sun light to fly

2. They do not have mouths

3. Their skeletons are outside of their 

bodies

4. Their wings have tiny scales

5. They can only see red, yellow, and 

green

now, that there are 4 

stages, soon you will 

see they are kind of 

similar to our ages.

Stage 1:

Mommy butterfly lays 

many eggs, very 

small and round. They 

are left on a leaf, not 

on the ground.

Stage 2:

The eggs hatch and out 

comes a critter. It will eat 

lots and grow. It is called 

a Caterpillar.
