Jose Antonio Navarro was born on February 27, 1795 in Bexar, which is now known as san Antonio, Texas.

During the wars between the Spanish army and Mexican rebels, Navarro fled the United States to save himself from being executed.

When the war settled down, navarro made his return back to Texas. He was 21 years old. When he came back he became friends with Stephen F. Austin, another important historical figure in TExas history.
