

Once in the Royal city of magadh, an old woodcutter who lived alone with his young daughter besides the forest. Woodcutter used to go to the forest early in the morning to cut wood and to gather Thorn bushes.
After cutting the wood, then wood cutter used to take the wood to the market for sale. Woodcutter used to get very little money which was enough for two people. One morning, his daughter came and told her father that ‘we eat same type of food everyday but we should also eat something special once. Do you think you could buy us some more cakes?’


His father said that ‘I think I can do this if I work more’. His father said he would cut more wood. Next morning, the wodcutter woke up earleir then usual to cut more wood. But it took much longer than he thought.By the time he came back home, it was quite a night.


There was no response from inside even knocking on the door, due to which he had to sleep outside.
Next morning, the woodcutter woke up while it was still dark. He thought why not going to the forest? And cut some more wood. So that he will sale twice as much and buy more cakes. He went to the forest to cut more wood but again he took longer then he meant to.




By the time he came back home it was too late, and he had to sleep outside again. He was very tired because of workt long hours and he did not get food. While he was trying to sleep on a hungry stomach, suddenly a goddess appeared in front of him. Goddess asked the old man what happened? The woodcutter woke up in surprise. Am I dreaming or it is real? Goddess asked why are you crying?
Woodcutter narrated his ordeals to her, the goddess took some roasted peanuts from her pouch and handed them to the Wood cutter
Goddess said to the old man if you want your good fortune too continue, here’s what you must do every week, find someone in need then share what you have, that way, you both will be helped. The goddesses vanished.


The door to his house swung open. The daughter and her father had a good meals.
Extra money he bought after selling his wood. Woodcutter daughter had finished her house work and decided to go for a walk in a park.





She was trolling down a broad path when a carriage stopped beside her. A princess came in a carriage introducing herself, she said I am the kings daughter.

Would you like to be my hand maiden? Wood cutter daughter immediately accepted



But somehow he forgot what the goddess told him.

One day, the princess went on a picnic to one of her father private garden and she took the woodcutter daughter.
There was a small lake there. So they decided to play along. The princess asked the woodcutter daughter do you know how to swim? The woodcutter daughter replied that ‘I don’t know how to swim‘the princess said that I don’t know how to even swim, but I am going to play in water.
