Dedicated to Duke, our family Doberman and to the Old Man who never seizes to express genuine kindness to those around him.

My oh my, did grandpa sigh.
He fed the chickens,
the turtles and even fed
the rabbits nearby.
But everyday,
his hair was turning old and gray.
He desired a friend,
a friend who wiggled and played.
This friend did not laugh,
nor did he speak or write. Though he knew how to fetch, if the treat was just right.

Duke barks once, then barks twice!
Grandpa says, “Oh no no no!”
“Duke, do not bring in the mice!”
Duke looks at his newly
found friend and
sadly, walks away.
He thinks to himself,
they will be back another day.

“Duke, your ears are so long, and your walk is so derpy.” “I love your adorable eyes, and you are so quirky!”

Duke barks once, then barks three times!
Grandpa says, “Oh no no no!”
“Duke, do not bring in the porcupine!”

My oh my, did grandpa sigh.
He noticed all of Duke's friends,
were very close by.
Duke barks once, then four times!
Grandpa says, "Well bring them all in!"
"It's lunchtime!"
Grandpa pulls up a seat,
for every little critter with hairy feet.
"Duke, your ears are so long, and your walk is so derpy. I am very happy to have you by my side, even if my pants are all slurpy!"
