Blah blah blah Nazis blah blah blah war blah blah blah Hitler . . .

Man... I can't fail this test tomorrow but I just don't understand... I wish I could just go back and be in Nazi Germany so I could understand...

Wh- What's happening??!!!!
Where am I? What's going on? Who are all of these people? Why can't I understand these signs?

HEIL HITLER! Hallo comrade, What are you doing standing in the middle of the march? I'm Felix, What's your name?
. . . w-what? uh... I'm James. Where am I?

What do you mean where are you?! This is a celebration for Fuhrer Hitler invading the Sudetenland!
What's the Sudetenland? What year is it? How did I get here?
Felix takes James to a nearby café to talk in a quieter environment.

The Sudetenland are areas in Czechoslovakia where a lot of Germans live. The Fuhrer wanted them to become part of Germany again, and now they are!
So what's the Sudetenland and what's Hitler got to do with it?
But how?

You don't know the story of the Fuhrer?!?
No?
Where have you been?
uh... 2021
What was that? Anyways, let's start from the beginning...

Do you at least know about the Treaty of Versailles? It's one of the most important things that occurred after World War 1!
Oh I know about that! That's the treaty that was signed after World War One that placed the blame on Germany. France wanted to make sure that Germany wouldn't be able to rise up again so they put a bunch of crazy restrictions on them. Germany could only have 100,000 soldiers, they couldn't have any submarines or airplanes, and could only have 6 battleships.

Well if you know so much about the Treaty of Versailles . . . which is weird . . . then do you also know about the Great Depression in Germany?
uhh. . . what does the Great Depression have to do with Germany? I thought it only affected the U.S. . . .
also can we get some food because I'm starving and we've been sitting here with nothing...

That's very American! You should probably fix that. also, no the food is really bad, I don't think you want to eat the war rations.
As you likely know, the Stock Market Crash a few years ago in 1929 started a WORLDWIDE economic depression. Here in Germany, it caused the end of the "Golden Era" of the Weimar republic which also, in turn, created a lot of political instability in Germany.
During this era of political instability, the Nazi party promised solutions to the large amount of unemployment made people realize who true leader was. Hitler. President Hindenburg had a hard time finding a new chancellor, until Hitler was finally elected and remained chancellor until President Hindenburg died.

So the Great Depression effected everyone?
Yeah it effected the whole world. didn't I just say that?
Woah that's crazy. Did it have any effect on the war?
Yeah, the depression along with the first war scared a lot of people which made many countries start to sign alliances to protect themselves from another war.

To protect themselves countries started signing peace agreements otherwise known as non-aggression pacts. Hitler made a non-aggression pact with Poland and this pact caused Britain to trust that Germany was a peaceful country . . . that was until Hitler had to break the agreements in order to protect us.

What was Hitler protecting y'all from?
The other countries of course! If he hadn't of remilitarized the Rhineland then France might've invaded!
What's the Rhineland?
You really don't know anything do you...

The Rhineland is a small piece of land on the border of Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Germany used it in the first war to invade France through Belgium, to make sure that that wouldn't happen again, the Treaty of Versailles made Germany demilitarize the Rhineland. Once France made an alliance with Russia Hitler saw it best to remilitarize the Rhineland to be able to protect the German people. #gohitler

Oh I guess that makes sense. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know Hitlers the bad guy. I still don't understand why there was a parade for the Sudetenland?
Jeez kid, ok let's start with beginning...

Before Hitler took over the Sudetenland, Hitler "negotiated" with President of Austria for TWO HOURS! Afterwards, Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg agreed to Hitler's demands: releasing pro-nazi prisoners, Pro-nazis made ministers of war and finance, and their economy would be merged with Germany's. This was called Anschluss.
